Open Until Filled JOB DUTIES This is a temporary/full-time, year-round position working with the nationally accredited Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department.
The PRCA Department is committed to building gateways that enrich our community through exceptional customer focus.
This position will work under and be an assistant to the Recreation Supervisor - Sports.
They will assist in the growth and continuous improvement of the programming for recreational sports, tournaments, outdoor recreation opportunities, and special events for the City of Farmington.
They will help monitor and supervise the use of City athletic fields and facilities, provide exceptional customer service to the patrons, and offer support to the programs and events offered through the Recreation Division and the Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Works under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor - Sports and the Recreation Manager.
Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other Division, Department, and City employees, sports officials, and all members of the general public.
Assists the Recreation Supervisor - Sports in preparing, facilitating, and supervising traditional athletic programs for the community including, but not limited to, softball, volleyball, kickball, basketball, etc.
Assists the Recreation Supervisor - Sports in developing and facilitating various special events, including the currently established Riverfest 10K & 5K, the Connie Mack World Series, Road Apple Rally Mountain Bike Race, Turkey Trot 5K, etc.
Collaborates and assists in developing and facilitating programs promoting the outdoor recreation initiative.
Works closely with the City of Farmington Marketing Division to coordinate public awareness of sports programs and events.
Helps maintain sports content on various Recreation Center social media outlets including Facebook, Instagram, and website.
Creates flyers, videos, and multi-media presentations for marketing purposes.
Assists in maintaining sports related notebooks, compiling and recording game scores, and preparing various types of reports.
Assists the Recreation Supervisor - Sports in the coordinating and permitting of Applications for Facility Usage submitted by the local high school athletics, local youth and adult sports organizations, and outside sports groups wishing to reserve City fields for games, leagues, and tournaments.
Supervises various City recreation facilities throughout the year.
Performs the duties of opening and closing press boxes, turning on and off sports field lights, and performing other facility tasks as needed.
Serves as a court monitor, scorekeeper or an official when necessary at Department facilitated programs.

Performs the duties of the Recreation Supervisor - Sports during absences.
Performs duties of the Sports Complex and Fairgrounds Field Supervisors during absences.
Assists with other recreation programs and events facilitated by the Recreation Division or the PRCA Department as a whole.
Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the Department and the City.
Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program.
This includes:
pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing.
Successful candidate must provide enough information for an extensive background check.
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.
Minimum of high school diploma or GED, preferred undergraduate coursework as stated below.
Undergraduate coursework in parks & recreation, sports management, physical education, or a closely related field and/or two years recreation experience with an emphasis in sports.
Good public relations skills necessary.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, sports officials, other City personnel, and the public.
First Aid, AED, and CPR certification, or ability to obtain such within six months of hiring.
ANSI certified Food Handler preferred or must be obtained through City classes within 60 days after entry into employment.
Ability to work weekends and evenings.
Good telephone skills necessary.
Ability to count change and use a cash register.
Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Personal computer, including Microsoft software; calculator; copy and fax machine; phone; mobile or portable radio; automobile; various sports equipment used in recreation programs.
