Monday, August 07, 2023 JOB DUTIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES Works under the general supervision of the City Clerk.
Assumes duties of the Deputy City Clerk in the absence of the City Clerk and Deputy City Clerk.
Provides a variety of routine and complex clerical and technical assistance in the issuance of business licenses, registrations, liquor licenses and Private Patrol Operators/Investigators' licenses.
Determines type and need of business licenses/registrations for businesses conducted within the Farmington city limits in accordance with City Code, and issues such licenses and registrations, which are approved by the City Clerk.
Confers with various City departments including Fire Department, Zoning, and Building Inspection for appropriate authorization.
Receives payments for licenses/registrations, balances receipts and posts payments collected.
Maintains files that include applications for business licenses/registrations, liquor licenses and private patrol operator/investigator licenses.
Coordinates the issuance of Private Patrol Operator/Investigator licenses by compiling all pertinent information for approval through the Police Department.
Prepares letters for business license renewals and delinquent accounts on an annual basis.
Tracks and maintains private investigator, private patrol operator and pawnbroker bonds for expirations, renewals and approval in accordance with City Code.
Maintains a scrapbook of newspaper articles concerning the City and monitors advertisements for businesses or events which may require a special City license or permit.
Runs various reports for City Departments and affiliates.
Responds to public inquiries.
Under the direction of the City Clerk, authorizes the release of City records ensuring compliance with Inspection of Public Records Act.
Assists in the maintenance, filing and retrieval of permanent records as requested.
Assists in the preparation of agendas for City Council meetings as requested.
Provides initial contact with the public at City Hall and escorts/directs visitors to the appropriate individual and location.
Provides information to the public and handles citizen complaints or refers them to the proper authority for disposition.
Processes timesheets for the City Clerk's office.
Procurement Card liaison for the City Clerk's office.
Makes travel arrangements and prepares travel requests.
Serves as a Notary Public.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy.
High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of increasingly responsible work experience in providing customer service and/or a general office environment.
Working knowledge of applicable chapters of the Farmington City Code.
Extensive knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Ability to type 45 wpm or at a rate sufficient to perform duties of job.
Comprehensive knowledge of computers and software packages including specific knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in order to assist the public and other department personnel.
Ability to successfully organize, work and complete tasks with frequent interruptions and ability to change focus immediately.
Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public.
Ability to work with angry or uncooperative customers in an effective and calm manner.
Ability to work well under pressure and in stressful situations.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.
Must be able to obtain Notary Public commission within six (6) months of employment.
Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Personal computer including word processing software, typewriter, mainframe computer terminal, recording equipment, laser printer, scanner, calculator, copy machine, telephone and fax machine.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
