Qualifications:
1. Valid New Mexico Special Education Teacher, School Psychologist, or School Social Worker license preferred
2. Expertise in the field and knowledge of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders); experience working in public schools preferred
3. Knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is preferred.
4. Knowledge and ability to implement physical management training required. CPI or equivalent training preferred
REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Programs (EPO) or Designee
JOB GOAL:
To support district-wide special education staff as well as general education teachers, administrators, students and families in the provision of behavioral supports and services
designed to assist students with low incidence (high needs) disorders and/or behavior challenges.
PERFORMANCE
Responsibilities:
1. Design, develop and implement, with appropriate district approvals, management and/or behavioral interventions.
2. Participate in behavior intervention teams (BIT) as needed providing support for the implementation of behavior plans, crisis support and de escalation strategies
3. Maintain appropriate records, assist and provide guidance for teachers and other staff in the implementation of behavioral interventions.
4. Participate in IEP meetings including input into the 11 considerations for students with autism documentation.
5. Provide coaching and professional development to staff on behavior interventions and supports.
6. Collaborate with regular education teachers, along with special education teachers and facilitators regarding students with behavioral challenges.
7. Participate in the referral and/or evaluation/re-evaluation process for selected students when a diagnosis of ASD is being considered for eligibility.
8. Work cooperatively with special education administrators, school psychologists, social workers and special education teachers in developing FBA/BIP procedures and paperwork.
9. Assist with maintaining student data and prepare pertinent reports requested by the Director of Exceptional Programs
10. Assist with developing and providing staff training and preparation for working effectivelywith students with low incidence disorders as well as those students with other behavioral disorders.
11. Carry out other responsibilities as designated by the Director of EPO
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Teacher contract
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education evaluation of certified staff.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
